What to Expect with Treatment
Treatments are gentle, slow, often subtle forms of manual therapy. Most patients find treatment relaxing and peaceful. Pressure can vary depending on what is needed. Following a treatment it is good to relax, and rest to allow the healing to continue.
The treatment does not end after one gets up from the table; the body needs time to process and heal. Treatment can continue for a few days following your session and the goal is to help the body move in the direction of healing. Immediately following a treatment it is helpful to go for a walk because that help improve your circulation and it also helps you ground back into your body.
Drinking plenty of water is important. Your body is about 55-60% water, your brain about 85% water, and the functioning of your nervous system depends on a well-hydrated cellular environment. Your muscles also need to be hydrated to heal.
Sometimes there is a temporary increase in soreness in your body before it resolves and clears. You may also experience increased fatigue or increased energy as your body readjusts to a new equilibrium. It is also possible to have emotional ups and downs or mood swings and you may need extra sleep so remember to listen to what you need and be gentle and kind to yourself.
